Rockstar released the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI today. The numerous visual highlights aside, it featured the crackling, poppin’ “Love Is A Long Road” by artist Tom Petty. Besides being a pleasing track that totally fits the vibe of Vice City, fans have pointed out the thematic suitability of its lyrics for GTA VI‘s hypothesized story.

Petty is no stranger to Rockstar’s sandbox. His “Runnin’ Down a Dream” was previously featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. While Petty himself died in 2017, his estage agent handling his social media accounts posted a note on Twitter expressing gratitude for having his song featured on the latest trailer of GTA VI.

Rockstar Games reciprocated the favor, extending a thanks for featuring his track on their trailer.

Trailer 1 of Grand Theft Auto VI continues to smash records. It’s amassed 80 million views and 8.2 million likes on YouTube in less than 24 hours. At this rate, it’s on track to becoming the most viewed video game trailer in a span of 24 hours.

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated to arrive on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and the Xbox Series S some time in 2025.
