Netflix released the first, full-length Heart of Stone trailer as part of its Tudum event. The 2.5 minute trailer provides a good overview of what the movie’s plot is about while also giving a sense of its massive scale. Comparisons to Mission: Impossible are not lost on fans. Netflix is seemingly being on board with the similarities; among the crew’s credentials is the fact that it’s from the executive producers of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Take a look.
The trailer lays out the movie’s premise using minimal dialogue, with emphasis directed at highlighting its massive scale. Gal Gadot stars as Rachel Stone, an agent working for a mysterious, off-grid organization named The Charter, that exists without any political affiliations. Its agents are highly trained in covert ops. The agency is currently in pursuit of a mysterious object dubbed the “Heart”, capable of bringing down planes and crashing buildings. Whoever wields the power of The Heart will, as is the case with most movie McGuffins, control the world, kicking off a fervent race to stop its possession.
Jame Dorman and Alia Bhatt star in pivotal roles as the trailer sees Gal Gadot indulge in death-defying stunts, akin to the ones seen in the Bond movies and the aforementioned Mission: Impossible franchise, never mind Gal Gadot’s insistence on avoiding those comparisons. This includes high-speed bike chases and a HALO jump that’s sure to evoke comparisons to the one seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The movie’s marketing has emphasized on the grounded nature of its stunts, and while the trailer technically does show feats doable by humans (at least in the world of Hollywood), my best guess is this will turn out to be more of marketing-speak. Netflix hasn’t revealed the film’s budget, but judging by its scale and cast, it’s definitely north of $100 million.
Heart of Stone streams on Netflix on August 11, 2023.
