GTA VI Trailer 1 Becomes The Most Watched Gaming Video In 24 Hours, Surpasses Lifetime Views Of GTA V

The game's first trailer is now the most viewed gaming trailer in 24 hours.

Grand Theft Auto VI - Thrillbilly Mud Club

The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI dropped online yesterday and fans simply can’t stop gushing about it or watching it on repeat. The trailer was already on course to smash records, with even Guiness itself acknowledging its impact. Now, just over a day since its release, it turns out the trailer achieved quite a few records along the way.

To start with, the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has become the most watched gaming trailer of all time in 24 hours, beating the previous record holder by a wide margin. On YouTube, it’s also the third-most watched video of all time in 24 hours with 90.4 million views, only behind two music videos from popular Korean band BTS. It’s also the most-liked video game trailer in the same timeframe with 8.9 million likes.

Rockstar has also broken its own record, with the trailer surpassing the lifetime views of the first Grand Theft Auto V trailer. The GTA V trailer accrued 101 million views in 12 years, which the GTA VI trailer passed in a day by garnering 106 million views. It even broke Mr. Beast’s record for receiving the most views in 24 hours. Insane!

The insanity doesn’t stop there though. IGN noted that the first GTA VI trailer has surpassed the lifetime views for the trailers of Red Dead Redemption 2 (23.4 million), Cyberpunk 2077 (17.7 million), and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (13.4 million) – combined. And it doesn’t stop there. Throw in the view counts of trailers for Hogwarts Legacy (34.1 million) and God of War: Ragnarok (19.4 million) and it still comes out on top (well, not yet, but it will by the time I hit publish). Madness!

GTA fans also noted that the trailer being published on other gaming sites such as IGN and GameSpot robbed it of some more potential views. As of this writing, the trailer has over 3.3 million and 17 million views on IGN and GameSpot respectively. That’s over 20 million views and while you could argue that there would be a significant overlap, there’s no denying the GTA VI trailer could have shot past BTS had its YouTube channel been the sole source hosting the video.

Egged on by X (formerly Twitter) CEO Linda Yaccarino, Rockstar also went ahead and posted the trailer on Twitter. The post containing the video is off to a strong start and has already received 22 million impressions.

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated to arrive on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with no mention of a PC version (yet). Head over to this piece to further narrow down that release window.
