Popular trailers tend to boost the music that accompanies them. This is often seen with Hollywood trailers. The first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy for instance increased sales of the song Hooked on a Feeling by over 700%. It seems a similar phenomenon has beset the song used in the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI as the world simply can’t stop listening to Tom Petty’s 80s hit.
According to Spotify (as reported by IGN), demand for Petty’s Love is a Long Road that featured in the GTA VI trailer has surged by 36,976% compared to last week. That’s how many more people are listening to the song this week compared to last week. With 11.3 million plays on Spotify, it’ll be interesting to see where that number sits next.
Petty’s Twitter account tweeted on behalf of the late artist, acknowledging his partnership with Rockstar. Another song of his, Runnin’ Down a Dream was used in the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Grand Theft Auto VI is slated to arrive on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with no mention of a PC version (yet). Head over to this piece to further narrow down that release window.
