James Cameron revealed the title of Avatar 3 as Avatar: Fire and Ash. The reveal was done at Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month and signifies the important role the Fire people will play in the third movie, something that was suggested around the time Avatar: The Way of Water released.
Cameron had previously explained that the four Avatar movies complete a saga that was kicked off by the original, with each installment centering on a certain Na’vi clan revolving around an earthy element. The 2023 sequel was thematically and visually heavy on water. It makes sense for the next one to focus on fire. While no other details were revealed, we did get the below logo.
Principal photography on Avatar: Fire and Ash wrapped a long time ago, with Cameron working on his team to finish up post-production in time for the movie’s release. Re-shoots and pickups will probably continue, as could filming on some parts of Avatar 4. Despite not becoming cultural phenomena, the Avatar movies remain wildly successful, both having grossed over $2 billion worldwide.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is slated to release in theaters on Dec 19, 2025.
