Mission: Impossible has generally seen a rotating roster of actors and characters, save for a few fixtures. But ever since McQuarrie took over as the franchise director, many characters have made multiple appearances. With Dead Reckoning Part One, Vanessa Kirby, who plays The White Widow, joins the roster of supporting characters who have appeared in more than one film. With the numerous women set to feature in the seventh Mission: Impossible film, Kirby was all praise for them while hailing Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt as a superhero for his escapades.
All her praise was part of a response to Collider’s Steve Weintraub asking her about her favorite piece of Mission: Impossible 7. Kirby was fascinated by all the characters featured in the film, before proceeding to heap praise on her co-stars.
I think the character studies in it, honestly. You have Hayley, who’s got this whole backstory. You have Rebecca and her immense power. You have these amazing women in it. Pom being so fierce. Then you have Ethan, who is doubting himself and his life, and it’s all catching up with him. I think that’s really special because, as humans, I think we all feel flawed and doubtful, and you’ve got an Ethan Hunt who is the kind of superhero to me, and he’s really, I think, feeling the weight of the journey he’s gone on. So I’m excited for that.
Kirby’s White Widow hasn’t been a prominent part of the promotions really, with the emphasis being more on Cruise’s death-defying stunts and franchise newcomer Hayley Atwell. Given that we’ve already seen her essay the role once, fans likely know what to expect from her. It remains to be seen if we discover any new shades to the character once the movie is out there for everyone to see. Check out the whole interview in the embed below.
