Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One just got its first TV Spot. And you know marketing for a film has reached its final stages when TV Spots are on the horizon. This one does not provide us with much new footage except for a line or two from Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) in his confrontation scene with Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny) as well as another quip from his Hunt’s comrades Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg). What we do get though are some new shots of the train sequence that makes it even more obvious just how much of a callback it is to the climax of 1996’s Mission: Impossible. Check it out.

The TV Spot is incredibly bland and generic and certainly leaves the creative, ominious and foreboding tone embodied by the movie’s two trailers far behind in pursuit of something more mundane. It’s strictly a TV Spot cut by-the-numbers to appeal to folks who might just be looking for a generic action movie, even as we all know Mission: Impossible transcended that cliche a while back and now slots itself into a cut above the rest.

Expect to see a lot more of these TV Spots over the next few days. Chances are, I won’t be covering all of them. But more often than not, TV Spots do tend to reveal new bits of footage and dialogue from scenes or sequences that have been approved by the movie’s marketing to be included across trailers. And while most can be as mundane as this one, some tend to be real gems. I’ll be on the lookout for those.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters on July 12, 2023. Its sequel, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is slated to be released on June 28, 2024.
