Captain America 4 Title Changed, First Look At New Costume Revealed

The movie will no longer be called New World Order

Looks like Captain America 4 is undergoing a major change. No, I’m not referring to reshoots, script changes, or anything of that sort; we’re not quite there yet. The movie is undergoing a change of title. After weeks of principal photography and months of being subtitled New World Order, the fourth Captain America installment will no longer carry that name. Instead, the new title of Captain America 4 is Captain America: Brave New World.

Normally, you’d expect this sort of a chance to be accompanied with much fanfare, more so for a production house like Marvel Studios. Quite the contrary, the new title was simply namedropped and announced in a tweet, accompanied with a behind-the-scenes look at Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America and Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. To make the news palatable though, this new set picture does give us our clearest look yet at Anthony Mackie’s newly designed costume.

The costume seems to have received a significant redesign from the snow-white look seen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That costume in turn was seen rather briefly in that show, not coming into play until the final episode. It’s unclear whether Mackie’s Sam Wilson will don this new costume from the start, or will start off with the older costume before switching or upgrading it midway through the movie.

The controversial nature of the New World Order title seems to have pushed Marvel Studios to make a change. Per Collider, the title is rooted in antisemitism conspiracy theories that surreptitious push a sinister narrative around Jewish communities. On the other hand, The Direct observes that the title refers to geopolitical events taking place between Russia and China. With such political overtures, the title was never going to fly for a studio that’s owned by Disney and the fact that it stuck for almost a year is surprising to say the least.

Directed by Julius Onah of The Cloverfield Paradox fame, Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / the new Captain America, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / the new Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as Sabra and Harrison Ford as a recast General Thaddeus Ross. Returning from the forgotten MCU movie, 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, are Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns / The Leader and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently slated for release on July 26, 2024.
